Online Language Support (OLS) was created to help Erasmus+ Program and European Solidarity Corps participants improve their knowledge of the language they will use for work, study or volunteering, both before and during their stay abroad, in order to insure the highest quality of educational mobility. OLS is a unique and accessible online environment that helps the participants evaluate their language competence and join an interactive language course in their own time. OLS provides also many other opportunities of joint and mutual learning, such as through training sessions in small (online classes) and large groups (MOOC – Massive Online Open Courses). Furthermore, during the mobility, students can share their knowledge and support each other on public forum. The OLS system shares language competence tests and language courses to participants of Erasmus+ Program that lasts min. 2 months (studies, internships, voluntary work).
In order to login to the OLS, students must create an account in EU Login.
The OLS can be used by students, Erasmus+ volunteers and VET learners whose main mobility language is one of the following languages: Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, German, Estonian, Greek, English, Spanish, French, Irish, Croatian, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Hungarian, Maltese, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Finnish, Swedish.
Thanks to unlimited access to the OLS system, you can take language courses both day and night and learn as much as you want, at your own pace. Since there is no need to install any additional software, OLS language courses are available on any computer or tablet with an Internet connection. To get the most out of the course, make sure your speakers are turned on or your headphones are plugged in.
Each user is assigned an individual training program. However, you can use all the modules you find useful. You can use them at your own pace and in any order. Real-life animations and videos will help you develop your listening, reading comprehension, writing and speaking skills.
At the moment, the number of OLS language course licenses provided by the European Commission covers all Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps mobility participants who have chosen one of the OLS languages as their main mobility language. This means that every mobility participant who takes the language assessment has a chance to take part in a language course and improve their language skills, if they so wish.
Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps OLS language assessment participants can easily assess their knowledge of the language they will be using during their mobility period to study, work or volunteer abroad. By participating in the OLS language proficiency test, they will be able to determine both their general level of language proficiency, as well as competences in individual language areas (reading comprehension, listening comprehension, grammar and lexical competence). The final results are given in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Thanks to the OLS language proficiency test, participants can quickly find out whether they need additional language support to fully benefit from their stay abroad.
The OLS language assessment is mandatory. Students must take a language assessment before departure as this is a pre-condition for taking part in mobility. However, in no case will the results of the test be decisive for the possibility of participating in the mobility. On the contrary, participants will have the chance to take part in a language course to improve their level of language proficiency and to be able to prepare themselves for mobility in the best possible way.
By completing the final OLS language assessment after returning from mobility, Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps mobility participants will have the opportunity to assess the increase in their language competences and the progress made during their stay abroad. Once all OLS language assessments have been completed, they will have the option to save and print their language assessment results for future reference.
The European Commission uses aggregated data on the results of language assessments and language courses for statistical purposes, as well as to assess the impact of Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps mobility activities and programs on the development of language competences.
All you need is a computer (or tablet) with Internet to access the OLS website and take OLS language assessments and courses. OLS language support is online only, so there is no need to install any external software. Before starting a language assessment or language course, the system will automatically check that your computer meets the minimum requirements. It will also check the computer screen resolution, web browser, multimedia software (Adobe Flash or HTML 5) and consent to the use of cookies.
When taking the language assessment, you should get headphones or speakers to solve the listening exercises.
When taking language courses, you should obtain a microphone needed to use the videoconferencing system for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and virtual classrooms.
Adobe Flash installation is required to participate in virtual classes. Before the language course is available, the system will automatically detect whether Adobe Flash is installed on your computer. If this requirement is not met, you will be notified.
OLS is compatible with the most widely used browsers, plug-ins, operating systems and applications. It has been developed using standards-compliant codes to ensure that it functions properly in many different environments and devices, from the oldest to the newest and from the simplest to the most advanced.
OLS is compatible with major operating systems and web browsers:
